My Only Bowling Season

Me at my only Special Olympics regional for bowling.

Of all the Special Olympics sports that I’ve done, the one that I did the least of is bowling. I signed up for it in 2019 because I was already doing for community engagement and my parents thought it would be an organic way to grow my skills. Practice was held at the Triangle Bowling Alley near the Triangle shopping center, while regionals took place in October at a Vancouver bowling alley. While I enjoyed the experience of doing Special Olympics bowling, I simply did not felt the urge to continue it. This thought was solidified as my attention difted towards finding ways to entertain myself while in lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic. The biggest impact that Special Olympics bowling had on my life was that it was the first time I met Kellan, who I would later reconnect with through community engagement.

  1. Bowling was a unique Special Olympics experience, it was a much different experience being in the bowling alley vs. being on a field or at the pool. I remember how jam packed the bowling alley was in Vancouver for regionals! So many athletes were there!

  2. I think it was so Awsome that you gave it a try and totally understand that it didn’t feel like it was a good fit. Love that you connected with Kellan!
